Real hosting support tickets, start to finish

Ten conversations, the way they actually run: the customer’s words, the evidence, the confirmation, the fix. And not all of them end the same way.

Real transcripts belong to our tenants, private by design. These are faithful reconstructions of the cases we handle most.

WordPress · 11:23 PM Resolved in chat

“Site is down. It just says: Error establishing a database connection.”

Read the conversation
I have a client demo at 9am. please help
11:23 PM
Checking now. Your database server is up, but the wp_options table is marked as crashed, usually from an interrupted write. I can run a repair, it is safe and does not change your data.
11:24 PM
yes go
11:26 PM
Repaired and verified. Your site is loading again, and the table came back clean with no rows lost. Good luck at 9.

Cron · 8:54 AM Resolved in chat

“OK, why do I get 300 emails from my own server every night?”

Read the conversation
One of your scheduled jobs prints output on every run, and the server mails whatever a job prints. Yours is the backup script at /home/martak/backup.sh, running every five minutes. I can point its output to a log file instead, with your OK.
8:55 AM
please. my inbox begs you
8:55 AM
Done. The job still runs every five minutes, the output now goes to backup.log. Tonight should be silent.

Domains · 3:42 PM Resolved in chat

“Can you point my parked domain at my main shop?”

Read the conversation
Happy to. You own two parked domains here: lena-knits.com and lenaknits.shop. Which one, or both?
3:42 PM
oh, both I guess
3:44 PM
Both added as aliases of lena-shop.com and live. They open your shop now. Give it a few minutes anywhere the old parking page was cached.

Backups · 10:19 AM Merged from snapshot

“I just mass deleted my inbox trying to clear spam. Three years of client emails. Please tell me there is something.”

Read the conversation
There is. Last night’s 2:00 AM snapshot has dana@dwphoto.net intact, about 2.9 GB. Two ways back: I can merge the snapshot into your mailbox, which returns the deleted mail and keeps everything that arrived this morning, or overwrite the mailbox to exactly its 2:00 AM state. Merge is the safe choice here.
10:20 AM
merge. definitely merge
10:22 AM
To run it, type the mailbox address to confirm.
10:22 AM
dana@dwphoto.net
10:23 AM
Merged. Three years of mail are back alongside this morning’s messages. If anything looks missing, tell me and I will check the snapshot again.
10:31 AM
thank you!!!

Node.js · 6:05 PM Resolved in chat

“My booking app stopped responding. The rest of the site is fine.”

Read the conversation
The app process for bookings has exited. The rest of your account is unaffected. I can start it again right now.
6:05 PM
yes
6:06 PM
Started and answering again. If it drops again, message me and we can dig into why with your developer.

SSL · 9:31 AM Diagnosed

“My SSL expired and AutoSSL keeps failing. Customers are seeing warnings.”

Read the conversation
Checking the renewal log. Validation fails because verdeluxe.shop does not point to this server: its A record resolves to 198.51.100.87, and this server is 203.0.113.46. The certificate authority checks wherever the domain actually points, so renewals will keep failing until the DNS comes here.
9:32 AM
ugh. that must be our old host. I thought we moved everything last month
9:34 AM
The site files are here, the DNS never followed. Update the A record at your registrar to 203.0.113.46, and once it propagates, message me here and I will rerun the renewal for you.

CloudLinux · 12:58 PM Routed to your team

“Every day around noon my site crawls, then recovers. Like clockwork.”

Read the conversation
I can see it in your resource history: your account hits its CPU limit between 12:00 and 1:00 almost every day, which matches when your newsletter goes out. The limit protects the rest of the server, so the site slows instead of crashing.
12:59 PM
so what do I do
1:02 PM
Two honest options: spread the newsletter sending across the afternoon, or move to a plan with more headroom. Plan changes go through our billing team, so I am routing this to them with your usage graphs attached.

Email · 2:17 PM Resolved in chat

“A client says they got 47 copies of my out-of-office reply???”

Read the conversation
Found the loop: info@ forwards to hello@, and hello@ has an auto-reply plus a forward back to info@. Every reply re-triggers the next. I can remove the forward going back, your auto-reply stays.
2:18 PM
yes do that. sorry, I set that up myself
2:19 PM
No harm done, it is a classic. The loop is gone and your auto-reply still works.

Email · 4:46 PM Explained

“Emails to one client keep failing. Is our mail broken??”

Read the conversation
Your mail is healthy, this one is on their side. The bounce from their server says the mailbox is over its quota, so it is rejecting everything, not just you.
4:47 PM
oh. so I just... call them?
4:48 PM
Exactly. Nothing to fix here, and the rest of your mail is delivering normally. I checked.
4:48 PM

explained · nothing to fix on your side

Five honest endings, same as a real support week: fixed in chat, restored after a typed confirmation, diagnosed when the fix lives elsewhere, explained when there is nothing to fix, and routed to your team with the diagnosis attached. 8 in 10 routine tickets take the first ending. Every action ran with the customer’s consent and sits in your audit log.
